Q: I don’t know what I want, can you help?
A: Yes, during your free mural consultation, I will look at the space you want your artwork. I typically ask a client about a favorite place or vacation destination, or about their interests. If it is for a child’s room, the child is usually a geyser of ideas. The colors, furniture and overall “theme” in a house all play a role in the concept of a mural so that it “fits” in your space.
Q: What happens during the mural consultation?
A: Once we have established a theme or basic direction, then I look at the room, the furniture, the plans and I offer ideas. You provide feedback and let me know if I am on the right track. Once we have the major concepts worked out, I make a sketch of the best idea(s) and give you a price for the mural based on the concept(s). At this point I often start a list of the details the client wants to have included in the mural (plant/animal species, colors etc.) Many of the smallest details work their way in spontaneously when I am actually painting.
Q: My wall has a really rough texture. Will that affect the painting?
A: It will not be a problem, unless you want a smooth look or a high level of detail. Then it is best to either do panels or re-plaster the wall to make it smooth which can be provided for.
Q: What kind of paint do you use?
A: Best quality Sherwin Williams interior or exterior for the base coat and Winsor Newton for the art stuff.
Q: Can you paint a mural on panels to be installed on location?
A: Yes. A mural can be painted on canvas and can be installed as wallpaper. An added advantage of canvas is that if you move, your mural can move with you.
Q: Do you travel?
A: Yes, especially if you live in Hawaii, Spain or Italy :)
Q: How long does a mural take?
A: This depends on the size of mural and the subject. Painting foreground elements over the existing solid colored background may take a day, and a full wall mural (8x10) would take 3-5 days. Most people are amazed how quickly the painting goes.
Q: Do I need to prepare the walls myself?
A: It will save you money if you paint the wall the necessary base color beforehand, but I can also do that for you. Often I design the concept around the existing wall color and there is no additional charge for wall preparation.
Q: How much do you charge ?
A: Our prices are based on a “per square foot” basis starting from $2.00 for very basic work to $50.00 for a more elaborate, more detailed oriented work.
